Say yes to the stress

Image
It's been awhile since I looked back and wedding photos and I was browsing through Pinterest today and thought it'd be interesting to look at my old wedding pins.  I managed to find the original image I used for a lot of my inspiration, especially the table decorations: Source: Pinterest Let's look even closer: Could be the tables from the same wedding! I'm actually pretty impressed with myself. Only took me like four years.  In addition to decor, my pins centered pretty heavily around THE DRESS.  I had a pretty good idea what I liked right away, but I was not excited about actually shopping for the dress. I rarely go shopping in person anymore (this was true pre-COVID and still true). I'm just not a shopper.  My mom lives pretty far away but planned a visit so she could go shopping with me. My mother in law also lives in the DC metro area so she came along as well. I did a bunch of research before the appointment and picked a boutique that had a good inventory of p...

Don't throw birds in birdhouses

Last time we looked at the big picture of designing a wedding yourself. Today, let's talk about some of the details that went in to make that really large picture. And don't worry; there's going to be lots of photos! So pin away friends. Pin away. Image source: Digital Mom Blog  I didn't spend much time on ceremony decorations because we aren't religious and didn't care about it very much. Also, it rained right as we finished, so there aren't a ton of pictures.  I focused on the reception, food and cute stuff I could put inside that wouldn't get rained on. I wasn't expecting it to rain, but I'm an event planner, so I knew it probably would.  Image source Here we go. Here's a small detail I spent way too long on:  Birdhouses A few easy steps to making your own Pinterest worthy birdhouses:  1. Go to Michael's (ideally by yourself) and spent two to three hours in the unfinished wood aisle. Find the leas...

In defense of mason jars

So you've decided to do it yourself. Let's take a moment to make sure this is a good idea. Image source My wedding DIY journey went something like this: 1. Book the venue 2. Ask for referral for a florist 3. Set up phone call with florist and fiance 4. Florist says the "bare minimum" will be about $4,000 5. Politely tell the florist to go fuck him or her self 6. Decide to just do it all yourself 7. Do it all myself 8. Die Ok, that might be a bit dramatic. Actually, I don't think it's dramatic enough. There were way more steps until I got to number 8. Image source If you're going to do the flowers and decorations and everything yourself, you need a few things:  1. The will to spend 97% of your free time working on them until your wedding 2. At least one friend/family member/bridesmaid that is willing to do all your bidding 3. More money than you'd expect, but definitely less than if you pay someone else to do it Doi...

Weddings are expensive as f*#k

Image
Welcome back. Part two of my wedding starts.... NOW We left off with my incredibly original insight that weddings are expensive. Even if you try to keep things chill and not go crazy, they cost money. And once you say something is for "your wedding", 15% more $$$ are added to any price. Automatically. "This is for a wedding. Just take all my money. I guess." Image source

Weddings make me anxious

Weddings are A LOT. Whether I'm thinking about planning my own wedding or thinking about attending someone else's wedding, it makes me anxious. And I'm done with my own wedding! Weddings are stressful.
