Don't throw birds in birdhouses
Last time we looked at the big picture of designing a wedding yourself. Today, let's talk about some of the details that went in to make that really large picture.
And don't worry; there's going to be lots of photos! So pin away friends. Pin away.

I didn't spend much time on ceremony decorations because we aren't religious and didn't care about it very much. Also, it rained right as we finished, so there aren't a ton of pictures.
I focused on the reception, food and cute stuff I could put inside that wouldn't get rained on. I wasn't expecting it to rain, but I'm an event planner, so I knew it probably would.
Here we go. Here's a small detail I spent way too long on:
Birdhouses
A few easy steps to making your own Pinterest worthy birdhouses:
1. Go to Michael's (ideally by yourself) and spent two to three hours in the unfinished wood aisle. Find the least defective $1.00 birdhouses. Check each one out because there are going to be some that are glued together all wrong.
2. Spend another hour finding the right kind of wood stain because you've never done this before and you don't want to ask anyone for help.
3. Consider whether or not you need to sand anything? Get some sand paper just in case.
4. Buy all that shit. (Don't skip this step... it's important)
5. Stain the birdhouses. It's just like painting and all you need is some simple stain, a craft brush, a tarp to protect the surface you're working on, and a bridesmaid that's done this before and can show you how easy it is.
6. Let them dry. Even though you're impatient and figured you could bang all these out in a day, you can't. Let them dry for 24 hours before you touch them.
7. Invite someone over to help you again.
8. Hot glue whatever you want on there. Flowers... umm that's all I glued and I literally cannot think of anything else.
9. A bird! Put a bird on it!
10. Sorry, I'm back.
11. Burn yourself at least once because you're unable to use a glue gun without burning yourself.
12. Switch to room temperature glue and let your bridesmaid use the glue gun for awhile.
13. Decide you want to make a garden in the front yard of some of the birdhouses.
14. Listen to your more experienced bridesmaid tell you that's not going to work.
15. Be stubborn and do it anyway because you have a VISION people.
16. Be right.
The front yard of that birdhouse is also a perfect place for your wedding rings
So simple, right?
