Weddings make me anxious

Weddings are A LOT. Whether I'm thinking about planning my own wedding or thinking about attending someone else's wedding, it makes me anxious. And I'm done with my own wedding!

Weddings are stressful.
It's a lot of pressure for one day of your life. Except it's not just one day. There's the year leading up to it when you're planning, there's the rehearsal dinner, the actual wedding, the next day brunch and then all the fucking thank you cards you have to send. It can overwhelm your whole life if you let it.

So that's probably why I've been married for more than a year and I'm just now posting about the event. I guess I needed 13 plus months to recover before I'd be ready to speak about it again.

Let's start at the beginning. No, not the beginning of my relationship, just when my husband and I decided to get married.

So this is Matt, my husband:

He likes taking pictures and being cool places like here (Iceland I think?). 

We met on OkCupid because we were both too cheap to pay for EHarmony (and he got rejected because he's a Jew). The year was 2010. The month was April. I lived in DC and he lived in Maryland. I thought it probably wouldn't work out because he lived far away (between 30 to 3,000 minutes away depending on DC traffic/the Metro). Somehow we made it work. 

We got engaged in September 2016. Being a thoroughly modern couple we went and picked out the ring together. I'm also a picky bitch, so I was definitely helping (slash 100% picking it out). He incorporated the dog in his proposal and SURPRISE! I said yes! 

We don't have a picture of us together the day we got engaged. Just me with fake Stanley and real Stanley and my ring. The important things.

We considered eloping or doing a very small scale destination wedding. Neither of us are/were "wedding people." Then we remembered that some of family members are old and we will make them travel, but maybe not too far.

It's traditional to get married in the bride's hometown, but mine is Pittsford, NY, a suburb or Rochester, and no thank you. We both like the concept of nature and mountains, so we had the idea to get married somewhere in the Shenandoahs (Shenandoahes? Shenandoahi?). So we looked at one venue and booked it. And it was THAT EASY! Right Gwyneth?

We have slightly less money than Gwyneth, so it wasn't that easy. And it was still expensive as fuck!

As the kids say, I literally CAN'T think about this any more right now, so next time: getting married on a budget!
